"I am a huge fan of this lady and own a couple lithographs of hers. I feel there is still an unfair lag in investing in women artists, so it is up to us to change that! A woman ahead of her time, active not only as an artist but also as a designer. I love her use of color and shapes. I have never seen this cute little pot before, it is quite unique!" -Blaise

Faïence modernist powder box created by Sonia Delaunay for the Parisian designer Jean Patou, ca. 1930. Stamped JP under the lid. 8 cm diameter.

Known primarily as a painter and textile designer, Delaunay worked alongside her husband, Robert, on the concept of simultaneous colours highlighting pure tones and geometric forms. In the 1920s, she applied these researches to textile and to dresses rapidly adopted by avant-garde women.  She designed the present box for the Parisian couturier Jean Patou, know for his modernist, tubular 1920s sportswear, and as the inventor of the contemporary masculine tie and use of the monogram.
